Design a modular outdoor sofa collection for John Lewis that combined sleek aluminium construction with long-term flexibility and broad customer appeal.
WHAT WE DID
We designed Platform Modular as a reconfigurable aluminium sofa system, balancing clean aesthetics with deep comfort and practical adaptability for evolving outdoor spaces.
We included novel innovative features such as a slide out table, and a new height adjustable table featuring no mechanism or hydraulics.
RESULT
Since launching in SS19, Platform has run successfully for seven consecutive seasons and remains a core John Lewis outdoor range. The collection has been recognised by The Independent as a leading modular garden sofa and featured in The Guardian for its adaptable configuration. With an average customer rating of 4.8/5 from over 200 reviews, feedback consistently highlights its comfort, flexibility, and durability.
The range has expanded to include new colourways, dining formats, bespoke covers, cushion bags, and replacement striped cushion covers, extending its lifecycle and supporting repeat sales.
